Anonymous – Digital Business Development Manager (US)


The Digital Business Development Manager will oversee higher value licensing negotiations and relationships with multiple large digital accounts, including managing direct licensing negotiations and ownership of agreements.

Work with senior licensing management and the digital licensing team on key issues at the partner and market level to develop strategy and ensure licensing consistency across all media and digital markets. Manage the Account Relations team member in their partnership marketing work with digital key accounts.

Directly manage other team members focused on business development and collaborate with other departments responsible for managing business intelligence, digital partnerships and licensing sales.

The finalist will execute business and partnership plans, to maximize revenue opportunities as well as direct-to-consumer audiences. A thorough understanding of licensing and rights management in the traditional and digital film/TV space is key to success.


Digital license:

  • Develop and implement licensing strategies, in particular regarding the evolution of licensing solutions for online movie/TV services (FAST, AVOD, VMVPD, SVODS, etc.) , advertising spend trends, changing business models in licensed markets and other emerging markets.
  • Lead the negotiation of deals with higher value digital licensees, ensuring that long-term strategic considerations are factored into individual negotiations and that consistency is achieved. Work with the direct report and the team to ensure the same.
  • Identify and lead analysis of emerging markets and digital entertainment trends. Collaborate with the team on strategic planning to maximize respective position.
  • Liaise with the AVP to set and meet revenue goals for each fiscal year and provide feedback on goals.
  • Establish and manage regular business reviews with all major digital accounts. Develop agendas and lead and present the business in a portion of these meetings.
  • Interface regularly with other departments such as legal, accounting, operations and others to ensure that all “shared services” departments have the information and expertise they need to process and pay the royalties of the digital licensing group.
  • Engage with corporate communications on internal and external marketing and advertising for digital licensing initiatives.
  • Proactively engage and provide expert analysis to corporate planning on industry research and analysis projects.
  • Represent the company at industry events. Act as both an internal and external resource to answer questions regarding digital media and digital music copyright, as well as specific questions about the business.

  • Directly supervises department employees, including those who directly manage custom negotiations.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring and training employees; plan, assign and direct work; assess performance; reward and discipline employees; handle complaints and solve problems.
  • Manage the Director, Account Relations to develop and deepen relationships with licensees, propose and execute partnership opportunities.

Context and requirements
  • Proven experience in digital entertainment, in a rights management, digital service and/or content management role
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the following:
  • Digital music services, audiovisual experience, working directly on content-based agreements with platforms and/or programming services.
  • The online movie/TV market (e.g. content providers, FAST platforms, AVOD, SVOD, etc.) and traditional cable/TV.
  • US and global digital rights market.
  • Ad spend and market trends, particularly with respect to ad-supported online services.
  • Digital fitness, games, social media and other online services using music preferably
  • Interpretation of license agreements and other legal documents.
  • Analyze data reports to determine trends, potential errors and omissions and their potential financial impact.
  • Music publishing and copyright.
  • KPIs for the variety of digital services that the company licenses.
  • Long-term forecasting and budgeting in ever-changing markets.
  • Experience managing account relationships and/or executing partnership initiatives.
  • Proven track record in building business relationships.
  • Proven track record of successful outside sales in the digital space, with significant experience in executing deals with key players in the music, content and/or performing rights markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the areas of negotiating agreements and partner relations.
  • Possess strong analytical skills, possess the ability and willingness to interpret data, using it to set performance and revenue goals and long-term business goals
