Robert B. Middleton, II (CNAP), has been a member of the NVBDC Board of Directors since 2019 and chair of the finance committee, which contributed to his knowledge of the organization’s financial situation, making him the nominee for choice for the position. His professional experiences and involvement with NVBDC solidified the decision to appoint Robert as the new Treasurer. Prior to accepting the position, Robert took the extra step to hone his knowledge of finance for nonprofit organizations by becoming a Nonprofit Chartered Professional Accountant (CNAP).

Robert served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970 in Southeast Asia, the Republic of Vietnam near the Demilitarized Zone, and later as an E-5 NCO with two years in the reserves. Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Robert worked with Forward Air Command (FAC) and Forward Logistical Command specializing in tactical telecommunications. As a CAF radio operator, he assisted high-ranking commanders in coordinating fixed-wing air combat missions in North Vietnam. Robert participated in numerous military operations, including Dawson River, Operations Lancaster I and II, and Operation Trousdale. He also participated in the famous Operation Dewey Canyon where the Marines captured the largest cache of North Vietnamese munitions during the Vietnam War. Robert’s decorations include the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Civil Action Ribbon of the Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Meritorious French Fourragère.
Robert has over 30 years of business and administration experience with a background in the financial services industry including property and casualty insurance, real estate and commercial lending. Robert is also the former Chairman and CEO of Middleton Financial Group and Chief Operating Officer of Mindtrust Capital Partners, which specializes in commercial and industrial lending and management advisory services to private businesses and corporations. Additionally, Robert has served as a research associate at the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration, Research Division; He has collaborated with postdoctoral business students on business research projects for Fortune 500 companies and international banking and lending institutions.
Currently, Robert is also the national commander of the Montford Point Marines of America, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity whose members include the nation’s first black U.S. Marines in World War II. Robert served as the U.S. Pentagon Correspondent to facilitate video interviews and coordinated the acceptance of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded by President Barack Obama and the 112th U.S. Congress for Montford Point Marine WWII Heroes nationwide in 2012.
Robert is an expert in corporate governance and best practices for nonprofits and faith-based entities, assisting boards with organizational structuring and development. Additionally, Robert assists with IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, regulations, compliance with local, state, and federal agencies, strategic planning, grant writing, project planning, , budgeting, forecasting, financial management, audit planning, and preparation and selection of independent audit firms.
