SCORE Canton supports nonprofit leaders and small business owners in our community by providing free business advice, counseling, training courses, webinars and workshops.
Recognizing the impact of nonprofit organizations on the economic vitality and community of our region, SCORE offers services specifically designed to guide leaders through their professional journeys, strengthen their finances and support their operations.
Nationally and locally, SCORE provides resources covering a wide variety of business-related topics. Along with these training opportunities, organizations also have access to retired local professionals who volunteer their time as SCORE Business Advisors and bring their expertise to Stark, Carroll, Holmes, Tuscarawas and Harrison counties.
This valuable assistance would otherwise not be possible for many organizations due to the expensive consulting fees that accompany most business consulting agencies.
Recently, SCORE helped Power of the Pen, a 35-year-old organization that uses competition to develop student writing skills at more than 300 colleges in Ohio.

With its recommendations and actions, the resulting strategic plan quickly helped the organization get on a stronger footing and ensure its future impact on the lives of young people.
“The Power of the Pen Board of Directors has worked with Canton SCORE to focus our business plan on strategies to achieve financial stability while reaching more young writers,” said Barb Tschantz, Executive Director of Power. of the Pen. “Using the business plan as a model, we were able to increase the number of participating schools across Ohio by 18% in 2021-22 over the previous year. Power of the Pen students are developing critical writing skills that will serve them throughout their lives.”
